Unfortunately it may be a bit between post's as I now have no electricity and no place to live.
I have been unable to work for 3 years, I need surgery to literally save my life.
I have no insurance, have never had insurance, no car, no phone, now no home.
oh, well.
they say if you can't change it you have to hope you survive it. so I'm numb. I just can't think about it all any more.
I'll try to get a few things done and uploaded since I'm at a friends house right now.
I have no idea where I'll go from here.
I Hope you all are doing Good I know the economy sucks and unfortunately it will not be fixed over night either. so folks hang in there and be happy for the little things in life .

A Truckers Story

If this doesn't light your fire .... Your wood is wet!

I try not to be biased, but I had my doubts about hiring Stevie. His placement counselor assured me that he would be a good, reliable busboy.

But I had never had a mentally handicapped employee and wasn't sure I wanted one. I wasn't sure how my customers would react to Stevie.

He was short, a little dumpy with the smooth facial features and thick-tongued speech of Downs Syndrome. I wasn't worried about most of my trucker customers because truckers don't generally care who buses tables as long as the meatloaf platter is good and the pies are homemade.

The four-wheeler drivers were the ones who concerned me; the mouthy college kids traveling to school; the yuppie snobs who secretly polish their silverware with their napkins for fear of catching some dreaded 'truck stop germ' the pairs of white-shirted business men on expense accounts who think every truck stop waitress wants to be flirted with. I knew those people would be uncomfortable around Stevie so I closely watched him for the first few weeks..

I shouldn't have worried. After the first week, Stevie had my staff wrapped around his stubby little finger, and within a month my truck regulars had adopted him as their official truck stop mascot.

After that, I really didn't care what the rest of the customers thought of him. He was like a 21-year-old kid in blue jeans and Nikes, eager to laugh and eager to please, but fierce in his attention to his duties. Every salt and pepper shaker was exactly in its place, not a bread crumb or coffee spill was visible when Stevie got done with the table. Our only problem was persuading him to wait to clean a table until after the customers were finished. He would hover in the background, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, scanning the dining room until a table was empty. Then he would scurry to the empty table and carefully bus dishes and glasses onto his cart and meticulously wipe the table up with a practiced flourish of his rag. If he thought a customer was watching, his brow would pucker with added concentration. He took pride in doing his job exactly right, and you had to love how hard he tried to please each and every person he met.

Over time, we learned that he lived with his mother, a widow who was disabled after repeated surgeries for cancer. They lived on their Social Security benefits in public housing two miles from the truck stop. Their social worker, who stopped to check on him every so often, admitted they had fallen between the cracks. Money was tight, and what I paid him was probably the difference between them being able to live together and Stevie being sent to a group home. That's why the restaurant was a gloomy place that morning last August, the first morning in three years that Stevie missed work.

He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester getting a new valve or something put in his heart. His social worker said that people with Downs Syndrome often have heart problems at an early age so this wasn't unexpected, and there was a good chance he would come through the surgery in good shape and be back at work in a few months.

A ripple of excitement ran through the staff later that morning when word came that he was out of surgery, in recovery, and doing fine. Frannie, the head waitress, let out a war hoop and did a little dance in the aisle when she heard the good news. Marvin Ringers, one of our regular trucker customers, stared at the sight of this 50-year-old grandmother of four doing a victory shimmy beside his table. Frannie blushed, smoothed her apron and shot Marvin a withering look.

He grinned. 'OK, Frannie, what was that all about?' he asked..

'We just got word that Stevie is out of surgery and going to be okay.'

'I was wondering where he was. I had a new joke to tell him. What was the surgery about?'

Frannie quickly told Marvin and the other two drivers sitting at his booth about Stevie's surgery, then sighed: ' Yeah, I'm glad he is going to be OK,' she said. 'But I don't know how he and his Mom are going to handle all the bills. From what I hear, they're barely getting by as it is.' Marvin nodded thoughtfully, and Frannie hurried off to wait on the rest of her tables. Since I hadn't had time to round up a busboy to replace Stevie and really didn't want to replace him, the girls were busing their own tables that day until we decided what to do.

After the morning rush, Frannie walked into my office. She had a couple of paper napkins in her hand and a funny look on her face.

'What's up?' I asked.

'I didn't get that table where Marvin and his friends were sitting cleared off after they left, and Pete and Tony were sitting there when I got back to clean it off,' she said. 'This was folded and tucked under a coffee cup'

She handed the napkin to me, and three $20 bills fell onto my desk when I opened it. On the outside, in big, bold letters, was printed 'Something For Stevie.'

'Pete asked me what that was all about,' she said, 'so I told him about Stevie and his Mom and everything , and Pete looked at Tony and Tony looked at Pete, and they ended up giving me this.' She handed me another paper napkin that had 'Something For Stevie' scrawled on its outside. Two $50 bills were tucked within its folds. Frannie looked at me with wet, shiny eyes, shook her head and said simply: 'truckers.'

That was three months ago. Today is Thanksgiving, the first day Stevie is supposed to be back to work.

His placement worker said he's been counting the days until the doctor said he could work, and it didn't matter at all that it was a holiday. He called 10 times in the past week, making sure we knew he was coming, fearful that we had forgotten him or that his job was in jeopardy. I arranged to have his mother bring him to work. I then met them in the parking lot and invited them both to celebrate his day back.

Stevie was thinner and paler, but couldn't stop grinning as he pushed through the doors and headed for the back room where his apron and busing cart were waiting.

'Hold up there, Stevie, not so fast,' I said. I took him and his mother by their arms. 'Work can wait for a minute. To celebrate your coming back, breakfast for you and your mother is on me!' I led them toward a large corner booth at the rear of the room. I could feel and hear the rest of the staff following behind as we marched through the dining room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw booth after booth of grinning truckers empty and join the procession. We stopped in front of the big table. Its surface was covered with coffee cups, saucers and dinner plates, all sitting slightly crooked on dozens of folded paper napkins. 'First thing you have to do, Stevie, is clean up this mess,' I said. I tried to sound stern.

Stevie looked at me, and then at his mother, then pulled out one of the napkins. It had 'Something for Stevie' printed on the outside. As he picked it up, two $10 bills fell onto the table.

Stevie stared at the money, then at all the napkins peeking from beneath the tableware, each with his name printed or scrawled on it. I tur ned to his mother. 'There's more than $10,000 in cash and

checks on that table, all from truckers and trucking companies that heard about your problems. 'Happy Thanksgiving.'

Well, it got real noisy about that time, with everybody hollering and shouting, and there were a few tears, as well. But you know what's funny? While everybody else was busy shaking hands and hugging each other, Stevie, with a big smile on his face, was busy clearing all the cups and dishes from the table.

Best worker I ever hired. Plant a seed and watch it grow.

Sorry folks , I'm still having Health problems and still no internet of my own but I do have a bunch of projects to upload soon. With all this down time I've been putzing with tutorials and learning new things so soon I will get them up and share what I've been doing.
I hope everyone has been well and are keeping busy (the enjoyable kind not the drudgery kind).

so here is where it would be different than most blog train's too.
I'll come up with a couple different color schemes but ultimately you get to do your kit your way so it can be Full size if that's what you are use to or if you are a beginner you can do a tagger size just remember to label your preview accordingly so people are aware of what they are getting in the download. I think as far as color's go we don't really get enough kit's offered in general that are neutral tones or geared towards men as often as we should so I'm thinking of leaning in that direction as far as color options I'll get a few options up here and if you just truly do not like any of them you are still welcome to participate with color's of your own. Now really How fair is that? LOL

Remember when You brought home something from school and your Mom or Grand mom or Dad would hang it with a magnet to the refrigerator? Remember being happy and proud of yourself for "Making it on the fridge ?" Our Kids need that feeling too. To me there is something wrong if a house isn't a little bit cluttered or a fridge has no magnet's holding up the art of a kid on it. That's not a Home in my book! And therefore no place I'd feel welcome.
Again just My opinion. LOL

My cousin's are sweet people and got my Laptop out of the shop for me and loaned me the money to get .....are yah waiting with baited breath?....LOL I got a Used WACOM Tablet !!!!!!!!!!!!! It was listed at Craigslist for $50.00 and I got it !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so happy !!!! I can draw and do tubes better and do all my daughters art and mine so I no longer have to rely on the Art community at large and the ever changing TOU's as well as the jumping from one agency to another OH MY GOD I'm FREE From that whole Blasted business !!!

So now that I've screamed from the roof top so to speak Maybe I can settle down a bit LOLOL.... Nah I know I probably won't but I can Pretend !

Terms:

FTU - Free To Use: Items are freebies.

PU - Personal Use: Obviously means you can use this only for personal use.

PTU - Pay To Use: You have to pay a certain amount of money in order to use this product.

CU - Commercial Use: You can sell what you make from CU items, but it must be labeled PU only. (depending on designers individual TOU's)

CU4CU - Commercial Use for Commercial Use: You can sell what you make from CU4CU items, you can label them the same so that when
someone buys it, they can also make stuff from it, sell it and label it as CU4CU.

CU4PU = you can buy it, use it to make a part of a kit or other product that you then sell to be used as PU. You cannot buy a CU4PU item, then use it to make something you then sell as CU. That is what CU4CU is for

S4H - Scrap for Hire: Creating things for others for a fee, such as layouts, quickpages ect....

S4O - Scrap for Others: Kinda means the same thing as S4H, but there's no fee to pay the person who's making your layout or quickpage

for you.

"The product is for commercial use, but can not be sold in it's original state."

Meaning, let's say you buy a flower action, you can't just make the flower and put it in a kit. You have to alter it somehow by putting it on

a tag or frame or something else. The flower can't be sold as it was made.

"Products are not allowed to be used to create new designer tools.You cannot use my products to create new Commercial use products"

Anything made from these products must be labeled personal use. You can not sell something for someone else to reuse as a commercial

use product.

"Products can not be transformed in a greyscalled item to be resold as a Template."

Can't make something out of a bought item and greyscale it and sell to others so that they may recolour it and sell themselves.

Careful What You Wish For, You Just Might Get It...

No Doubt, I Have to learn to phrase things more carefully.

I've been wanting a Dr. to listen to me for years, ok aparently found one...By the way I do NOT recommend getting a CT Scan. The Contrast is radiated and OMG you feel like you are on fire from the Inside. That is as close to radiation sickness and or poisoned as I EVER want to get again. If I contract some disease that the only Test in the world that will detect it and save my life is this one I want to go on reacord as saying NO. I mean it no thank you chalk me up as deceased because it will be a cold day in HELL before I ever allow that Contrast in my body ever again.
2nd part of not wishing carefully, is I once said I just don't care what the result is I just want a Dr, who is able to figure out what the heck is wrong. Ok Well Now I have to have surgery. I apparently have cysts' on my overies and a Hernia the hernia (hmmm gee a funky bulge in my abdomine go figure) I've had for several years but Dr's kept teling me I was an over weight Hypochondriact and now 6 yrs later I have to as in can not avoid surgery to remove or repair or what the heck ever he plans on doing with it.
Huh I guess that explains all the pain in my abdomine and why I haven't been able to eat with out being sick as hell.
So The 18th I go in to see Dr. they wanted me in earlier but My Dr is away on vacation and I will NOT deal with any one else. So Probably end up in surgery with in 24 hrs of seeing him.
No I will not be posting pictures LOL

Well finally I have a place to Brag a bit. LOL

My daughter is the Artist not me I'm the Proud Mom of an artist who dabbels in Art herself LOLOL.

I've been scanning into the computer all my daughters sketches for a month or so with the intent to have Free to Use Art to share and use in making Digital Scrap's and Tags as well as web set's.

So I'm not a pro at line art or tubing but I'm getting better and if I had a mouse instead of this darn touch pad on my laptop I think my progress would be even faster. So having said that I belong to a wonderful Google mail group that helps me learn my software and is HUGEly supportive of my effort's. I also have been a fan of the person who posted a tut with my permission on his site (link below) using one of my daughter's drawings. Thank you Spencer.

The one's I've been scanning are all non filled in or non colored blanks as I requested of her. I figured they allowed for more personalization for people choosing to use them as fillable charms or making stickers or even brushes.

Once I get this place set up right LOL or Organized better I'll provide these on my site as well .

I just can not express what The Zone means to me.

I'd been knocked around by a lot of people for belonging to Groups in G-mail and Yahoo, I'd been threatened and accused of being a Pirate for just belonging to a group. I was at my wit's end in trying to find someplace that was all about teaching well everything or at least Anything from understanding my software as well as keeping me up to date on permissions and copy right's. I was ready to chuck everything in the garbage. I didn't want my Licenses' any more I didn't want to PSP at all and all those new programs family and friends had gotten for me for my birthday and Christmas were going out the window too. I was just dang done with the Drama and the Paranoia in the Digital Art world. Everyone was pointing fingers . No One was teaching anybody anything just leveling accusations at every mistake ...the Nastyness was just unbearable. I was disgusted.

Then I found the Zone.

I was in Heaven creativly ! So many Quality CC Tubes and links to CC resources as well as tutorials. In addition you actually had rep.s of CILM MPT AMI as well as New Agencie's being Born right here in the Threads you could bump into and Chat with some of your Fav. Artist's.

I found that asking a question would get you friendly , considerate answers in a prompt manner and Mistakes were handeled with Grace and dignity rather than accusations or name calling.

Here was a Forum Group that was Proactive in teaching Both the Artist's how to help protect themselves as well as Teaching Member's how to be CC and Help the 2 ?Sides? of the CC issue to see the benefit's to helping each other.

Everyday is something new to learn again. Or it's just a Great place to park it in a thread or two for the day and discuss things with each other. Even play some games.

Before anyone start's hating me over this one Let me Say this. I truely Hope the new President will at least try to do the things he promised. I am very Glad America voted for someone from an ethnic background. He's no Rev Martin Luther King but since someone decided that was too great a possibility and eliminated that Great man before his time I guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens. He may surprize many. I certainly hope so.

However the Pragmatist in me feels it's a losing battle and I do not Believe he will accomplish much. Too many White guys with Fat wallets want him to Fail.

The Power is Not the President's.

It's Congress and Senate that run the show folks. If you want change you HAVE to Start by Cleaning House ! Only a little Pun was intended LOLOL

For real folks it's not the President that makes or breaks anything. He hasn't got enough Power to do a dang thing alone. Our Gov. was set up to be this way (3 branches all share the power) No ONE man was to be allowed ALL or ABSOLUTE Power. (Power corrupts, Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely)

Our Founders knew what they were doing.

The Point was NOT to have a KING we had just begun a War to get rid of one we didn't want another.

One of the Best things We had Proved to all the nay sayers in those early years was When Mr. George Washington Stepped down and made way for the Next Freely elected President. LOL Man I wish I Could have seen the Looks on world leaders faces. Just about every one of the European Countries watching felt That NO way NO how was any man going to give up a seat of power easily let alone willingly and they all were chomping at the bit to be able to tell us "we told you so!" Then Mr G. Washington Stepped aside not only willingly but very likely Gladly. It's a Heck of a responsibily to shoulder..To be the First President of the United States of America. To be the one EVERYONE watched just waiting for any sign of weakness or a rumble of discontent from the population at large. They expected Failure everyday. Most still do. Yet here we are Still One Nation (Under Many Gods) . Best of All We The People Are Still TRYING, Still IMPROVING , Still LEARNING, and Still FREE !

So Mr. Obama Please do Try ! Please do work Hard ! Please Keep Learning ! Please Help US Keep growing !

By compairison to how long the rest of the world have been doing this whole Government thing (wink) we ARE just unrulely Teen-agers with a need to rebel and test the limit's and our beliefs, Be a Good Parent and Help us get it all figured out safely. For a Common Good. For All of Us. We are giving you a chance now help us help you ! We all be in this together.

Ice Cream & The Election

Excellent analogy!
From a teacher in the Nashville area.

Who worries about "the cow" when it is all about the "Ice Cream?
The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year.
The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest.
I decided we would have an election for a class president.
We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.
To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members.
We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.
We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections.
Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother.
The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first.
He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best.

Everyone applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise.
She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream." She surely could say more. She did not have to.
A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure.
Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it? She didn't know.
The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream.
Jamie was forgotten.
Olivia won by a landslide.
Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and fifty-two percent of the people reacted like nine year olds. They want ice cream.
The other forty-eight percent of us know we're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

The Farm Girl from WI in me can relate to this analogy. Now we just have to wait and See will Congress let him provide Ice Cream and Care for the Cow ??? Or Will Congress and the Senate make sure He Fails. Will He have the Back bone to Stand alone against them a solitary voice of reasoned speech and compelling arguements? Or will he back down because it's after all a dirty job to muck up behind the Cow ? I do Hope he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty like the bulk of the population of this Nation do every day. I do Hope he isn't afraid of back breaking labor and going to bed exausted only to wake up and have to do it all again . I do Hope he intends to work toward the goals as promised. Nothing will happen overnight but by Gosh he has 4 years to show us he's made an effort and some head way. I'll give him 4 yrs of Honest effort and judge him accordingly with his results.

However I won't be standing in line for more Ice Cream if he let's the Cow Die.

Also notice that the exam took five hours to complete.

It is kind of humbling, isn't it ?

I'll be doing some research to see what other state's test's were like and I'm now wondering what exactly are my tax dollars teaching my kid ?
